  • Right-click the image layer. This should be in the bottom corner on the right-hand side (or wherever you place your layers tab).
  • Click Layer From the Background. This should be the selection at the top of the dropdown.
  • Click OK. This will open the layer for you to remove the current background. You may also rename this layer if you wish.
  • Click Properties. This option should be found on the right-hand side of your screen.

  • Click Select and Mask. Again, you might have to scroll down in order to locate this option.
  • Use the Brush tool to include or remove elements in the image, or it gives the Refine Edge Brush to smooth out mask boundaries.

  • Tap the Add New Layer button. This is located at the bottom right of your monitor.
  • Insert new background. You can do this either by copy-paste the image from another Photoshop tab or by image uploading directly.
  • Pull the background layer down. That is it! Read the Troubleshooting below to see how you can improve your subject as it relates to its new background.
